Each year, the Umoja Community partners with other groups on campus incluing the BSU and AAFSA, to sponsor a series of activities including cultural field trips, university visits, Umoja sponsored conferences and events, and opportunities for deeper understanding of African American culture and experiences.  A sample of planned activities include:

  • Umoja Remixer: Walking into the Village - January
  • Day of Service - January
  • Black History Month events - February
  • Movie Night - March
  • A2MEND Summit - March
  • Black Student Success Week - April 
  • Juneteenth Celebration - June

    Get Information from Umoja right on your phone!  You can receive push and/or text notifications to your phone.

    28th Annual Rites of Passage Ceremony

    The Rites of Passage Ceremony at Monterey Peninsula College honors and celebrates Black/African American students who have completed their degree or certification, or are transferring to a four-year university. The event takes place on May 18th at 6pm in the music hall and provides awards, scholarships, and guest speakers. It's a significant and inspiring event that recognizes the achievements and cultural identity of these students.
